Cendrine Marrouat: You own an independent label and an Internet radio station/blog. How has your experience as an entrepreneur helped shape your musical career?

Wordsmith: It has given me more of a business mind instead of just being a rapper. I have never been able to just manage my career because when you run a label, you’re dealing with the personalities of many people.

Baltimore-based Wordsmith recently received the 2011-2012 ASCAPLUS Award. His music has been featured on CBS, VH1, ABC, and ESPN. It is my pleasure (Cendrine Marrouat) to interview him today.

Cendrine Marrouat: Hello Wordsmith, thank you for answering my questions. First, tell us a little more about you.

Wordsmith: Hmmmm…I would say I grew up an Army brat, though I never used the term cause I am far from a brat; I’m more of a free spirit I would say. I was able to see the world as I grew up and actually was born in Germany; this allowed me to have what is called dual Citizenship.

This prestigious award program is for active writers in the early/mid-stages of their careers and established writers whose main activity is outside of the broadcast media.
