As my cuz BK and I headed to the train that would take us to Whinedasch (probably screwed the spelling up) I was starving. We passed alot of food spots in Penn Station, especially stores that sold smoothies. My cuz and I love stuff like Milkshakes/smoothies so it was hard to pass them up, but we did. As we caught the train my cuz let me know it was gonna be an hour trip, so the next phase for us was to stay awake and fight the burning sensation in our eyes. By time we got to my cousins house it was close to 2:30am, so we put one in the air (wink) and I tucked it in for the night.
I got up about 10:30am the next day with the same prevailing theme; I'm hungry. I forgot the name of the spot, BK can fill it in on the comments, but I got eggs, toast and bacon from this mom and pop shop that was banging. After that I took a shower, got fresh and prepared to go wow Octavious Crouch from Universal Records. My cuz and I caught the 1:30pm train into the city, so we didn't get there until a little after 2:30. As we were walking I got a call from Greg Epps, who is my label rep, and he said since I was there early he could get the meeting bumped up from 4:00pm to 3:30pm. When my cuz and I rolled up to the Universal building I had to do a double take because I could of swore I was looking at Harry Conick Jr. leaning against the wall. Sure enough it was him and he was dressed very average with old cargo shorts, a short that looked like it was buried in his dresser and a faded hat backwards. Still, the guy has a great voice and I respect just about all music, so I said whutsup. At about 3:20, I stepped through the doors and checked in at the front desk. I was given a green pass to enter the 7th floor, so up the elevator I went. Ding!!!! I stepped out of the elevator to a beautiful white wall that said "Universal Records" and a stand was there as well with a poster of Busta's new album. A second stand was by the secretary desk and it featured a new artist that was about to come out. I checked in and had a seat in a nice black leather chair while I waited to see Octavious.
Fuse TV was running on a flat screen when Oct stepped out from a side door and called my name. I'm not and can't go into detail about what we discussed, but the meeting was very fair and Oct listened to my music thoroughly. Put it this way, our meeting was suppose to be 20 min. and it ended up being over an hour and a half. We spent another 20 min talking at the front door of the building when he walked me out. I kept seeing Bk over Oct shoulder trying to see if I had good news. I wasn't offered a contract that day, but Universal was very interested, so I knew I would be back.
Again, I was starving, but next on my agenda was to visit my man Jube, who is the owner of the famous club Sob's in the city. The first train we hopped on took us a half hour the wrong way, but we made our way to Varick street and literally stepped off the train right in front of SoB's. My cuz followed me in and we went downstairs to Jube's office. I had no appointment, but Jube had booked me for Sob's 4 times prior, so we had a decent relationship. Once Jube was done with one meeting I sat down with him and let him know my situation. A minute later, he booked me for a John Forte's comeback show on July 3rd. This was a Hot 97 sponsored event, so he said I would get alot of promo from it. I dapped him up, thanked him and rolled out.
Next on the agenda is I had a phone interview with Can We Talk Radio in 30 minutes, so I had to find a place somewhat quiet to do it. We ended up stopping at an expensive Italian restaurant and my cousin and I took a seat at one of there outside tables and I prepared for the interview. I was on the air about 15 min and when it was done I was like cuz we have to eat. After a small search we ended up at a spot called Spunto. Handddddssss down, BK and I had the best salad we probably ever had. The lettuce was grinded up like you do cheese and unlike most restaurants, they put more then enough grilled meat on our salad. The other thing that was different was none of there drinks had sugar in it. My cuz ordered a Lemonade and I got a Ice tea, so I figured there would be sugar packs. Nope, the server brought us this big glass bottle with a clear liquid in it. We asked her what it was and she replied, "Sugar Water." I was like damnnn, I use to make that in college sometimes when I had nothing to drink. Needless to say, it was a great idea by the restaurant.
Once we left the Spunto's it was time to hop back on the train and head to Penn Station. Small tidbit that most people won't care about, but I accidently threw away 5 dollars in the trash on the way to the train. My cuz and I actually went back to look for it and we found it in the trash by Spunto's. Moral of the story here is, you never know what you will find in the trash. Now we see why bums are so rich (wink). Anyways, my train back to B-more was ready to leave at 9:05, so I said peace to my cuz and headed home.
I spent the first two hours of my three hour trip writing part 1 of this blog and checking/sending messages on myspace through my phone. With 40 minutes to go to Baltimore, I fell asleep and awoke when I heard a conductor say Baltimore. I rushed out of the train and started to walk up the stairs into the terminal when I realized they stopped at the Travel Plaza and not BWI yet. I had to spend another hour in the train station and catch the next train. I ended up getting home around 2:30am, slept an hour and got up to commute into work in DC. MANNNN I LOVE MY LIFE!!!!
Thanks for reading everyone and I got a BIG SURPRISE the very next day, so stay tuned!!!!
